Saying goodbye...
This week, my parents had to make the decision to have their basset hound Marti put to sleep after she experienced a severe worsening of some leg weakness that she had been having off and on for a few months now. Of course, it's never easy to decide when it is time to let our furry friends go, and it has been a sad week in our world. Marti came to up back in 1997, when I was a senior in college, just after we lost our previous basset hound Jesse. She quickly became a part of the family and lived a great life as a loyal and faithful companion. She will be greatly missed!
One of the most difficult but most important thing that we can do as pet owners is realize when it is time to put our needs aside and worry more about the quality of life of our faithful companions. While it would be nice if our dogs and cats could be with us forever, their comes a time when we really owe it to them to let them go. I am glad that Marti had a long and happy life, and I am glad we were able to spare her the suffering that sometimes comes with the life of an older dog. We will miss her, but we will remember fondly our Lady, our Party Girl, our friend.
Enjoy the Rainbow Bridge, my friend...

IT is very sad to lose a pet. My condolences to you and your parents.
I'm so sorry about Marti. *sniff* I know all to well about letting to a furry friend, and I hate that feeling, but love my pets. I could never be without pets.
I am so happy you had those wonderful years. I hope everyone is able to heal. My heart goes out to all your family.
I came across your blog via Boomama's. Oh, my goodness, I got all teary-eyed when I saw the pic of your basset hound. Then, when I read about her, I did cry! We had a basset named Holly that we dearly loved, and had to have her put to sleep 3 years ago. I still cry when I talk about it. It was the best thing to do for her but so very hard for my husband and me. Holly was a dear, tender little friend that I'm so glad we had in our lives. There is something so special about those basset personalities, isn't there? Rest in peace, sweet Marti. I'm sure that it was hard for your parents. Take care.
