In which I talk about many different things, most of which have nothing to do with one another...

First of all, I have done a little redesign over at Chicken, again?, thanks to the fun new tools that Blogger has introduced. That's my kitchen at the top of the page, and I am pondering also doing a redesign on this blog and also on Mountain (Step)Mama (the blog with no readers and not much of a writer either), if I can find a perfect picture for each blog. As much as I love my current design, compliments of Miss Zoot, I think it would be fun to customize my own blog design now that Blogger has made it so much easier. Of course, I don't have PhotoShop, so my abilities are limited, but I will see what I can do.

Tonight, I was going through my budget, which I have saved as a Google spreadsheet (love that feature of Google!), and I have come to the sad realization that I went through all those years of school and came out of school to take a job with a shiny new paycheck, and thanks to all those loans that I had to take out to go to school, and also thanks to my roll as the utility bill payer hear in Chez Casey, I have the distinct pleasure of...continuing to live paycheck to paycheck. The good news is that my job gives plenty of opportunity for overtime, so hopefully I will end up making a little more than I expect every pay, and then I will still be able to buy pretty things for myself on occasion and also keep Otto's higher end dog food in stock.

Today, it was about 9 bazillion degrees out, and that was here in the mountains, so it was even hotter down in the valley where my parents live, and when I got home from a visit to the cemetary (it was my BBW manager's birthday today, so we went to lay flowers at her gravesite) and a trip to a local diner for pancakes and pork roll, it was so hot in the house that I felt compelled to install our two window air conditioner units in our windows all on my own. It was hot and backbreaking work, and Otto was a huge help. It is much cooler in our house now, and I feel that we owe that all to, well, me!

Bill heads to Cleveland again this weekend because I am the nicest wife ever and he is a wackjob Cleveland Cavaliers fan. He was there last weekend, and he was planning to stay in town this weekend, but with their great victory last night, he and his friend Jeff started dreaming of going. I am not one to stand in the way of a dream, so I gave my blessing to the trip. Now, I get a date night next week to see whatever movie I want, and Bill has promised to stay in town until football season. Now, perhaps we can pretend like we are actually married, as opposed to our current relationship, which is that of two ships passing in the night.

We have been having a lot of storms here lately, and tonight, as I was getting ready to head to my friend Julie's house for an At Home America party that she was having, there was lots of lightning all around. Now, I was raised to have a healthy respect for large bolts of electricity issuing forth from the sky. During my childhood, we had two hard and fast rules. You never bathe or shower during a thunderstorm (we spent some years in Tornado Alley, and we know what it looks like when the sky turns a purple-green color and a funnel cloud makes its way through town) and you always unplug electrical equipment. I worked a 14-hour shift last night, went to the cemetary and breakfast, and made it home to grab a nap around 1:00 this afternoon. I woke up at 4:30 this evening and planned to leave my house by 6 PM. There was a thunderstorm going on, but I was dirty and had to make myself pretty for my night out. Therefore, I found myself breaking both of those hard and fast rules, as I jumped into the shower and then continued getting ready as I watched all my saved MTV shows on the DVR. Where exactly did my parents go wrong?

Alright, I have been up since 6:00 yesterday morning, save for a 2 1/2 hour nap this afternoon, and although I am still running, I think I am down to mere fumes. I am going to get some sleep...I promise you some more coherent blogging next time!

Yay redesign! I want to do that too but eh... who had the time.
When Mark and I started sharing expenses we opened a joint account and each put the same percentage of our pay into it - not amount but percentage - and from that we paid all the shared expenses. That way no one person is flush with extra cash while the other one is scraping by. It really worked out well and I totally recommend it.
Girl, your sleep schedule makes me weary.

I had the same realization with my paycheck when I graduated from college. The very same day I got my first **real paycheck** I had a car repair that basically ate up the whole thing. My mom said, "Sweetie, get used to the fact now that you basically work so you can pay all your bills." I paid off my student loans about a year ago and THAT was a great feeling.
