I am woman, hear me roar...

For a long time, I have been known in my family as the go-to girl for things like building Ikea furniture and fixing a toilet that won't stop running. I was never sure how well such a talent would serve me out in the real world. And then I met my husband.

He is truly my perfect match. The thought of building a book case out of a bunch of numbered pieces and an Allen wrench overwhelms him. When the toilet won't flush, he just ignores it and hopes it will go away. Before I moved in with him, it was not uncommon for me to come here and find that the chain was off the flush mechanism, rendering the toilet unable to flush. When I would ask him why he hadn't fixed it, he replied that he didn't know how. He clearly had not even looked into the toilet tank to see what the problem might be.

For the last four years, life here at the Casey house has been a peep show for anyone who wanted to catch a glimpse. Because our house is in the woods and far from the road, window coverings were never a priority. Now, because I work at night and sleep during the day, Bill thought it would be nice for me to have some privacy (for all the nude dancing I do in my bedroom...oh, I mean, for the sleeping) and some blockage of the burning rays of the summer sun. Therefore, for my birthday, he bought me window blinds.

Today, I installed those window blinds.

Now, I had a dress rehearsal last week when I went tripping off to Target to buy some curtains for our room as well. My in-laws had gifted me with just the money I needed for some nice full-length tab top curtains and a lovely curtain rod that looks beautiful flanking our large bedroom window. I dragged out the drill I bought Bill one Christmas, as well as a little step stool and a screwdriver and set to work. With minimal swearing and not too much sweat, I got those curtains hung...and hung straight...and hung beautifully.

Today, I tackled the blinds, which I had to undermount within our window frame. It involved more fun with the drill and some twisting of myself into impossible positions in order to get the screw in the hole. There was a little more swearing. But it's done.

I have blinds and curtains.

And I hung them all by myself...

My husband will be so proud!

You are not alone. I'm in charge of Ikea furniture and curtain mounting too.

All that handy-work stuff...LOVE IT! Although my boyfriend even measured his walls to hang 2 pictures, to make sure they are perfectly centered on the wall and evenly spaced...I on the other hand would wing it and hope for the best. I just find that to be more fun. He made me laugh that day. I bet you would have measured too? That's probably why your curtains are perfectly straight and your Ikea furniture doesn't wobble ever so slightly???

Curtains I can handle. But blinds...*shakes fist Homer Simpson style* Though I have hung them in the past--and then pray they stay up.

Ohh, know how to fix the toilet chain too. hee.
