This year, the fates have aligned in favor of my birthday. Those of you familiar with my crazy schedule* may recall that I have clinical every other weekend and work the weekends that I am off clinical. So weekends in my world? Non-existent. Non-existent, that is, until the fates intervened and gave me a birthday gift all their own.
My clinicals ended on April 2 this year. That's right. April 2. My classes go until the middle of May, but somehow we got enough clinical hours in that we were done a few weeks early. I am going to have two (maybe three, but let's just talk about the two) weekends off to end this semester. The first? Easter weekend. The second? The weekend of my thirtieth birthday.
Yes, that's right. The fates are my friends.
I challenge you to find another crazy 29-going-on-30 nursing student who works two jobs and is planning her wedding and blogs** who has had the good fortune of the fates aligning in such a way as to give her a weekend off for her thirtieth birthday, which is on a Saturday in this fateful year. Did you find one? I didn't think so.
Therefore, we are going to party like it's 1999. Literally.
In 1999, I was 23 years old and living with my best friend from high school, Sarah, in a lovely apartment in the former attic of an old mansion. We were drinking whenever we wanted to because we were 23! And the bar was right down the street! And they had electronic darts! And beer is good!
In 1999, my sister was attending college in the same area of town in which I lived, and sometimes I went and partied at her college with her. One time, this meant that I drank too much and threw up on my tray in the cafeteria at brunch the next morning. Not my finest hour, folks. But, sadly, not the worst either.
This party will include friends and family galore (sidenote...it's sort of humbling to see how many people care enough about you to come to your birthday party. I live with a mild fear that I will throw a party and no one will come...but our RSVPs look good for this one!), and it will also include Beer Pong and Flip Cup. It will probably also include a hangover. But I think it will be worth it.
