Relief

On my way to school yesterday, driving down Route 78, a highway that is the bane of my existence, there was some slowing of traffic. I couldn't imagine what it was for because there weren't that many cars on the road, and to be honest, in my Type A Way, I started to grump a little. And then I saw what was causing the delay...

Lined up in a convoy in the left lane was a train of nine bucket trucks from an electric company. One of them had a sign on it that said, "Hey, Katrina, we're Mississippi-bound."

And I was complaining about a little traffic...

Something you might not know about my family is that we are rather patriotic. Our flag has flown continuously since way before September 11, 2001, when everyone else joined us in showing their support for our great nation. I happily pledge allegiance to our flag whenever I have reason to. I sing the national anthem (quietly) at baseball games and always get a tear in my eye as I do. And I support the men and women who are fighting overseas to make this world safe for freedom.

And now there is a catastrophe right here on our own soil. And once again, Americans are rising up and showing the world what we are made of as we send resources down south to help those affected by Hurricane Katrina. Those bucket trucks were just a small example of the relief effort going on right now. And excuse me for getting a little cheezy...that makes me proud to be an American.
