Mall Rats

It's been a shopping kind of day for me and my mom. See, we head out of town this weekend for a wedding in Colorado. Yes, the Day of the Strapless Dress has arrived. But I digress. Anyway, we have no idea what the weather will be like in Denver this weekend. Will it be warm? Cool? A little of both? So you see, we must be prepared for any and all possibilities. And so we must shop.

In the interest of packing lightly, I am trying to have some versatile items with me. As near as I can tell, I need something relatively nice for the rehearsal dinner, something moderately nice for breakfast on Saturday morning, something relatively warm to wear into the mountains on Sunday, and your average run-of-the-mill sneakers and jeans to wear on the plane home on Monday. The wedding is taken care of by the aforementioned Strapless Dress.

Anyway, my trusty black pants will serve for the rehearsal dinner Friday night and for breakfast Saturday morning. And I plan to have an array of shirt and cardigan combos to go with the pants. I even got some cutie new shoes. I think I am all set!

Of course, traveling my plane brings into question whether or not my long metal knitting needles are really the best things to travel with. I am making good progress on my current project (a Christmas gift that will be discussed only in nebulous terms), and I want to bring it along to work on it. I had some plastic needles that I was using, but Somebody (okay, Bill) threw away one of the needles after I left it in his dad's car. I know, why? But there are some things that I won't ever figure out. He was a little embarrassed when he admitted it, at least.

So off I went to Michael's to look for some new plastic needles. But let me tell you...that was the best stop yet! They sell bamboo needles there now! And they are cheaper than the plastic! And I like them better! I would happily have bought all bamboo needles if I hadn't seen them as Expensive Needles I Can't Afford and Have No Business Using as a Novice Knitter! But I did, so I started with metal and moved on to some plastic and even bought a bunch of those discontinued fake baleen ones on clearance, but now I will be upgrading! But slowly because I have no money!

Anyway, I got me some size 10.5 bamboo needles. And here's the best part...I got the short ones. The Nebulous Project fits onto shorter needles, and I thought they would be more convenient on the plane. So I went for them. I came home and transferred said project onto the new needles, and they fit well. I do need to use a stopper on the needle end when I stop for a break because otherwise there is a chance that I could lose some stitches off the end. But luckily, stoppers were one of the Unknown Objects that came in my "I Taught Myself Knitting" kit, and I was able to pull those babies out and put them to use. So all is right in my knitting world again.

And a flight from Philly to Atlanta and then from Atlanta to Denver should give me plenty of time to knit, right? Right? Unless sleep overtakes me...in which case I can just remember that it is only September, so I have plenty of time to get said project done. Sure, plenty of time. I can do it...really.
