Cranky Pants

You may have noticed* that I have been a little bit MIA this week. After going on about Pam and Jim kissing at the end of the second** season of The Office, I went far, far away, if only in my own mind. This week, the emotional roller coaster that is my life took on a big hill with some scary loops and a few cork screws thrown in. Yes, friends, school is back in session, and this one's going to be a doozie!

Added to the stress of school starting this week, I picked up some extra hours helping one of the local Bath and Body Works stores get ready for their upcoming remodel. I was happy to make some extra money, but I was less happy to give up my prime sitting-on-my-ass time, which is what Wednesday and Thursday afternoons usually are for me. Finding myself working those extra hours, along with my regular work hours, coupled with the three nights in a row that I was on campus until 10 PM, only to get up the next morning at 5:30 AM, sent me into meltdown mode.

Conveniently, my parents and grandmother spent the last week in Maine, so I had the house all to myself, save for the dog and the two cats who were there to keep my company*** Except for the cats' penchant for early morning, um, cat fights, all was well. I didn't get to give them the attention they are used to, but my parents are home, and all the animals are still alive, so that's a success in my book.

I did take the aloneness as an opportunity to go see the movie United 93, which I had decided I wanted to see by myself. It was a powerful movie and a fitting tribute, in my mind, to those who were lost in that Pennsylvania field on September 11. It wasn't so overwhelming that it sent me into a spiraling depression for the evening, but it was enough to make me think how lucky I am to spend time with those I love, recognizing that at any moment any one of them could be taken away.

Tonight, I was finally able to leave the animals behind to head up to Bill's house for a nice dinner and some practice at being the little wifey. As I sit here at the computer, I hear our dishwasher running as it works on cleaning the dishes that Bill cleared off the table and loaded into the little magic machine. Yes, it's true; the future Mr. M.Thom does dishes. One of the many ways that I win!

Now, I will take my glass of wine**** with me and head into the bedroom to spend some time with my loved one. Luckily, the cranky pants are gone, so he will be happy to see me!

*all three of you who are still reading

**thanks for the heads up, ladies!

I am still a reader here, but I read your stuff via an RSS Reader usually, so I haven't seen your new template up till now- not sure when you made the change. It is beautiful! You are lucky to have found a man that does the dishes, mine does too- I think it is one of the nice things about getting married later in life- the fact that they know how to take care of themselves already.

Sounds like the perfect evening - dinner with your man, a glass of wine and he does the dishes! (AMAZING!) I'll have to check out that wine, sounds good!

Sounds like a nice end to a hectic week and a nice beginning to one that I hope is less crazy and is cranky-pantsless.

I'm still here! Oh, and glad you did get some alone time, and dinner with the future hubby (where he does the dishes?) is okay in my book. Hope that's a prequel of every dinner. heh.

It does suck to give up all your time, but nice to get some extra money. I need TIVO. I'm a TV whore and I hate to miss my shows. But they're all re-runs now, so I don't have to worry about it.

Good luck with classes and work

I also watched United 93, I think they did a beautiful job on it. I saw a preview for "World Trade Center" coming out in Sept I think, and that movie looks really good!
